Buying chiffon for a wedding arch, backdrop or sewing project starts with three measurements: the fabric width, the length of each cut and the number of layers. This guide shows how to estimate a full-roll order without confusing linear yards with coverage.

How much chiffon do you need for a wedding arch?
Measure the route the fabric will follow, including both hanging sides and the top. A loosely draped swag needs more fabric than a straight measurement. Use a cord along your intended route to estimate the drape, then add fabric for attachment points, hems and any pooling on the floor.
Example: A rectangular arch 7 feet high and 6 feet wide has a straight up-across-down route of 20 feet, or about 6.67 yards. That is only the geometric starting length. If your measured swag, attachments and pooling require another 7 feet, the cut becomes 27 feet, or 9 yards. These are example dimensions, not a universal arch recommendation.
For two separate fabric passes, calculate each pass and add them together. Decide how wide and full you want the drape to look before cutting the roll.
How many backdrop panels can a 100-yard roll make?
A 100-yard roll is 300 linear feet long. Divide that length by your finished panel length plus finishing allowances. Full-width cuts remain 60 inches wide before hemming.

These counts assume the stated cut lengths already include your allowances and exclude cutting losses. If 9 feet is your desired finished length, allow extra for hems or rod pockets before using the calculation.
How does gathering affect backdrop coverage?
Fabric width and installed coverage are different. One 60-inch panel spans 5 feet when laid flat. Gathering that panel into a narrower space creates a fuller appearance.
Planning example: For a 10-foot-wide backdrop with twice as much flat fabric width as installed width, plan for 20 feet of fabric width. Four 5-foot-wide panels provide that width before side hems. At a cut length of 4 yards each, those four panels use 16 yards. Adjust for hems, overlaps and the appearance you want.
Is polyester chiffon see-through?
Yes. This EOVEA chiffon is sheer. A single layer lets the background show through. Extra layers make the appearance fuller, but do not assume they will create complete opacity. Use a suitable separate backing when a backdrop must hide what is behind it, or a lining for garment areas that need coverage.
Should you buy a full roll?
A roll is useful when several projects or repeated panels need the same fabric and color. Add all planned cut lengths, include finishing allowances and waste, and divide by 100 to estimate the number of rolls. Round up to whole rolls. Calculate each color separately because colors cannot be mixed within one roll.
For example, 18 panels cut at 4 yards each require 72 yards before additional cutting losses. One 100-yard roll leaves 28 yards for other cuts or allowances. A project requiring 108 yards in one color requires two full rolls if buying only this roll listing.
Choosing a color and caring for the fabric
Review the color photos on the listing and consider the lighting at your venue. Screen settings can affect color appearance. White and Ivory are separate options, so check your selected color before checkout.
